A Letter, A Genre is an ongoing series where I match each character with an aesthetic genre based on the initials: A for acidgrafix, D for disco deco, etc. The goal is to challenge myself to break out of regular design norms and see how design has changed throughout history. Throughout the summer, I wanted to develop a better sense of techniques in graphic design. Inspired by online series of A Poster A Day by different designers, I wanted to do one of my own. However, I wanted to add my constraints to challenge myself in as many different ways as possible. I’ve always believed in the idea that a designer should not be bound to one medium, so this was a good way for me to practice that belief. In alphabetical order, I designed started and finished each poster within a day, balancing intensity and frequency. Because every poster was a different style, I got to use different software to achieve the necessary look. So far, I’ve designed 11 posters in 11 different looks, with 2D and 3D programs. This has been an effective exercise in techniques, time management and self-discipline.
