The Law of Simplicity is a book by John Maeda. The book covers 10 laws of simplicity in design thinking, but it applies to life by itself. My role in this project was to design the book’s layout, cover, and overall page spread. To start, I was given the content of the entire book. The most important thing is to maintain the “simplicity” of the text, while also creating visual rhythm. This poses an interesting challenge of keeping a consistent legible layout throughout the book. I designed two separate grids for content and chapter pages as a solution. This allowed me to add I flair for every new chapter pages, while maintaining a sense of familiarity with the majority of the texts. In the end, the book spans over 100 pages. I learned to balance coherence, consistency and creativity in book design.
