Language! is a project about two opposing views of the same theme. My task is to conduct research and present two poster designs that demonstrate this duality while sharing visual continuity.
I decide on the topic of language around body image. My research has shown that wording around body image has been a source of conflict and healing. It’s been known that we can engage in harmful stereotypes, using degrading language with or without knowing it. On the other hand, we can also move away and consciously choose more empathetic language in this space. This gave me a good opportunity to demonstrate how we have progressed in our ideas, while reminding us of our past.
To highlight that point, all of the newspaper headlines in my design are from real newspapers collected in my research. The final two posters represent how we can choose our words and the consequences they may carry. In addition to the physical prints, I added motion design in the digital version as a visual cue for the viewer while reinforcing the message.
